Bir Portrait 2014.jpg

Born in 1960 in Germany, Birgitta’s artistic evolution began as a small child creating mosaics from the discarded shards of her home town’s glassworks. She is a self-taught artist, finding inspiration for her richly-diverse subject matter in both nature and dreams.

She lived in Switzerland, New Mexico and California before settling with her husband John Selby on the island of Kaua`i to raise their two sons. After 21 years of studying and participating in the Hawaiian culture, and displaying her art at various resort hotels, she and her husband returned to California in 2011 to pursue business opportunities and be closer to their grown sons.

Birgitta’s art demonstrates a highly-developed sense of color and composition, and keen attention to detail. She strives to illuminate organic qualities that often go unnoticed by the casual observer. Her love for non-conceptual forms and bright colors enables her to manifest a unique expanded vision of reality.

Birgitta now lives near Santa Cruz, California.
